Moana Surfrider Wedding Video

We are so grateful that Van + Gary chose us to be their Oahu wedding videographer for their special day. Firstly, they had all the reasons in the world to bring family and friends to paradise for their special day. Moreover, it would have been impossible to bring each other’s relatives to their homelands because of the vast cost of travel. For them, Hawaii was the answer. Not only did Van and Gary love traveling, but they particularly loved the island of Oahu.

Having spent a lot of time there during their dating years, V+G had fell in love with the gathering place. They had also been to Maui and Kauai, as well as other tropical locations around the world, but there was something special about Waikiki.

In particular, they fell in love with the Moana Surfrider.

First Lady of Waikiki Since 1901

Opened on March 11, 1901, the Moana Surfrider, originally the Moana Hotel, was built as the first hotel in Waikiki. In the 1920s, Waikiki experienced a new age of urbanization and previously rural areas were divided into suburbs. By 1927, Waikiki was slowly developing into a vacation destination with the building of Waikiki Natatorium War and the Honolulu Zoo. With Waikiki becoming a growing tourist attraction, The Moana became the choice accommodations for visitors.

From 1941 to 1945, the bombing of Pearl Harbor and Second World War halted the flow of visitors. The Moana became a rest and recreation area for soldiers and sailors, often becoming the last stop for those heading to war or the first stop on American soil on their way back.

After the war, the introduction of regular airline service to Honolulu revitalized Waikiki’s tourism industry and The Moana quickly regained its popularity.

Through decades of excellent service and luxury accommodations, the resort has experienced several restoration projects. This has allowed the hotel to maintain its reputation as a refined destination.

We are so thankful Van and Gary chose us to create their Moana Surfrider wedding video for their special day!
